Brainspotting
Brainspotting was born from EMDR. It works off the premise that “where you look affects how you feel”. It uses relevant eye positions to tap into the body’s natural self-scanning and self-healing ability. A brainspot is a way of identifying, processing, and releasing subcortical sources of emotional and physical pain. It was initially developed to help people with PTSD or trauma-based situations, but has proven effective with a wide variety of emotional and somatic conditions including: anxiety, depression, emotional abuse, low self esteem, shame, and much more.
Brainspotting has been shown to be effective with many different age ranges, including in children as young as two. To learn more, go to www.brainspotting.com for videos and information.
EMDR
EMDR is a somatic based intervention that was designed to heal trauma but has proven to be effective for many additional issues. EMDR is more therapist led than Brainspotting. During an EMDR session a client will focus on the issue they want to heal from while also focusing on an external stimulus. EMDR helps to alleviate the response to the disturbing event and reduce future reactions around the event. EMDR relies on the brains natural ability to heal and helps to facilitate that healing.
